HEAL Initiative: Integrative Management of Chronic Pain and OUD for Whole Recovery (IMPOWR): Research Centers (RM1 Clinical Trial Required)
NIH will fund a renewal research network with multiple clinical trial projects plus a central coordination center to test improved approaches for people with chronic pain and opioid use disorder and improve health system delivery of care.
⚑ Clinical trials required. · Renewal/network structure includes a central Coordination Center plus multiple individual projects. · Eligibility notice is broad; foreign institutions, tribal governments, faith-based/community organizations, regional organizations, federal agencies, and U.S. territories are listed as eligible. · HEAL/IMPOWR program focus is chronic pain and opioid use disorder within health systems.
This is a biomedical/clinical addiction-and-pain treatment network focused on care delivery within health systems, which is far outside IPPRA’s core survey, risk-perception, warning, energy, and education-policy lines. The team might touch implementation or public-health framing at the margins, but none of the named researchers has this as a PI-level program.

Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to renew the Integrative Management of chronic Pain and OUD for Whole Recovery (IMPOWR) research network. This renewed network will include several individual research projects supported by one central Coordination Center. The goal of the network is to test new and improved approaches for people who have both chronic pain (CP) and opioid use disorder (OUD). These approaches should lead to meaningful improvements in how health systems deliver care.
The network will be part of the NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL®) Initiative to speed the development and implementation of scientific solutions to the national opioid public health crisis. The NIH HEAL Initiative will bolster research across NIH to (1) improve treatment and prevention of opioid misuse and OUD and (2) enhance pain management.
