Systems Biology of Infection and Inflammation in Chronic Diseases (U19 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Supports cooperative agreement projects that integrate clinical and patient data, large-scale omics, AI, and computational modeling to understand how infections and inflammation contribute to chronic disease predisposition, onset, and progression.
⚑ Clinical trials not allowed. · Cooperative agreement mechanism; substantial NIH programmatic involvement likely. · Foreign institutions, faith-based/community-based organizations, regional organizations, tribal governments, federal agencies, and U.S. territories are explicitly eligible; no indication of a university restriction. · Award ceiling is $2,500,000.
This is biomedical systems biology centered on infection, inflammation, omics, and clinical chronic disease mechanisms, which is far outside IPPRA’s social-behavioral risk, policy, education, and hazard-communication portfolio. None of the listed researchers has a published line in clinical/biomedical systems biology, so this would not plausibly be pursued by this team as PI-level work.

Description
The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support the advancement of systems-level understanding of the link between infectious pathogens and inflammatory pathways that result in predisposition, onset and progression of chronic diseases. The NOFO will stimulate integration of clinical and patient data, large-scale omics datasets, advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computational modeling to prevent, treat, and mitigate the combined impact of chronic diseases, inflammation, and infections.
