National Digital Newspaper Program
NEH funds cooperative agreements to digitize, catalog, and make historically significant U.S. newspapers from 1690–1963 freely searchable and accessible through the Library of Congress database.
⚑ Program builds a national digital archive/database of newspapers; primary outputs are digitization, metadata creation, and access infrastructure. · Eligibility details are in the notice; a public university may be eligible to apply directly unless the NOFO imposes additional limits. · Cooperative agreement instrument may imply substantial NEH/LOC program involvement or coordination requirements.
This is a humanities digitization/infrastructure grant for archival newspaper preservation, not the team’s social-science research program. IPPRA members might use newspaper data as an input to some future project, but none of their standing lines center on collections curation, digital archiving, or humanities infrastructure.
