NIJ FY 2026 Research on the Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of Elderly Individuals
NIJ will fund research projects on abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults, including technology-enabled fraud detection, forensic investigation/prosecution, program evaluation, and education/intervention development.
⚑ Eligibility is not stated in the notice; direct university eligibility is inferred from the absence of applicant restrictions. · Projects must fit one of the four listed topic areas or they will not be considered. · Program includes both R&D and evaluation-style projects; the dominant emphasis is on research, not service delivery.
This is primarily criminal justice/forensic and elder abuse research, which is outside IPPRA’s core hazard, energy, weather, and public-opinion lines. While there is some room for evaluation or survey methods, none of the roster has an established program in elder exploitation, forensic investigation, or elder financial fraud prevention.
