⚑ Applicants must be a participating partner of the Hawai-Pacific Islands Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU). · Cooperative agreement with a modest ceiling of $49,844. · Research focused on wind-driven mosquito movement and related ecological disease-vector dynamics.

18 / 100 IPPRA team judgment

This is a biological/ecological field study on mosquito incursion and habitat conditions in a Hawaiian wildlife refuge, which is outside IPPRA’s social-behavioral risk, policy, warning, energy, and education research lines. The team would not plausibly pursue this as PI-level work beyond perhaps peripheral communication or stakeholder components.

Description

The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research in identifying how wind influences the incursion of mosquitoes into Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge (hereafter, Hakalau). Hakalau provides habitat for the most intact community of native Hawaiian birds remaining in Hawaiʻi, at least partly due to the lack of disease-carrying Culex mosquitoes in the higher elevation portions of the refuge.

Eligibility

This financial assistance opportunity is being issued under a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) Program. CESU's are partnerships that provide research, technical assistance, and education. Eligible recipients must be a participating partner of the Hawai-Pacific Islands Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit.
